General

Is there a registration fee?

Yes, a non-refundable registration fee of €50 is required. This amount is deducted from the tuition of your selected course.

Note: For special courses, the registration fee equals the full course cost.

How do I book a lesson?

Lesson registration is done through an online application form, available on the respective course’s page (check Courses for specific details). A registration fee is required, see the Payments section below for more information.

For adult courses, there are three registration periods each year, before the start of every semester:

  • Fall Semester: July 15 – September 15
  • Winter Semester: December 15 – January 20
  • Spring Semester: February 15 – March 15

For teen courses, registration is open from July 15 to October 15.

For special courses (exam preparation, conversation sessions), the registration periods follow the same schedule as adult courses.

Is there a trial lesson?

No trial lessons are offered. However, the registration fee (see above) guarantees access to the first few weeks of classes until the first tuition installment is due.

Who are the teachers?

All teachers are qualified professionals with degrees in linguistics and/or second language education, and extensive experience in teaching Greek as a foreign language.

Can I take the official Greek language exams after the course?

Yes, after completing all sub-levels of a given CEFR level (e.g., A1.1 + A1.2), you are eligible to take the Greek Language Certification Exams.

Note: Exam fees are not included in course tuition.

Is there a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, all students who meet the attendance requirements receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Payments

When do I pay the tuition?
  • Special Courses: The full course cost is paid as a registration fee upon application.
  • All other Courses: Tuition is paid in two equal installments (after deducting the registration fee and any applicable discounts):
    • 1st Installment: 20 days after the course begins
    • 2nd Installment: After completing 60% of the live teaching hours

Students will receive a reminder email with exact payment dates from the Course Coordinator.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payments can be made by bank transfer or online payment link, which will be sent via email prior to the payment due dates.

What discounts are available?

Special Courses: No discounts available.
For the rest of the courses, a 15% discount is offered in the following cases:

  • Full payment of the total tuition fee in one installment
  • Group registration of 3 or more new students
  • Registration of first-degree relatives (spouses, civil partners, children, siblings)

Only one discount may be applied per student, even if multiple criteria are met.

What does the course fee include and exclude?

Included in the course fee:

  • Access to our live and self-paced e-learning platforms
  • Training in how to use the asynchronous learning platform
  • Extensive learning materials
  • Certificate of Attendance (for students who attend at least 70% of live sessions)

Not included:

What platforms are used for online lessons?
  • Zoom: For live sessions
  • VoiceThread: For sharing materials
  • Greek to Me platform: For asynchronous learning and homework
What are the technical requirements?
  • Device: Laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (smartphones are not recommended)
  • Stable internet connection
  • Equipment: Headphones and webcam

Level

How do I know my language level?
  • If you already have a Greek language certificate, you may proceed to the next level.
  • You can take a placement test via the Centre for the Greek Language diagnostic tests available online.
  • Teachers will also assess your level at the beginning of the course and make adjustments if needed.
What are CEFR language levels?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) defines levels of language proficiency:

  • A1 – Beginner
  • A2 – Elementary
  • B1 – Intermediate
  • B2 – Upper Intermediate
  • C1 – Advanced
  • C2 – Proficient

Which levels do you currently offer?

We currently offer courses for A1, A2, and B1. All levels will become available in the next academic year.

Are the courses only for adults?

No. We offer separate courses for adults and teenagers (ages 13–17). See our Courses page for more details.

Lesson

Can I reschedule or switch lesson times?

As lessons are group-based, rescheduling is only possible in exceptional cases and must be agreed upon by your teacher and fellow students.

What if I miss a class due to technical issues or personal problems?

Contact your teacher directly. Depending on the issue, our Course Coordinator or Technical Support Team may assist you further.

How are lessons structured?

Each course typically consists of two 100-minute classes per week. See our Courses page for specific details.

What materials are provided?

Students have access to:

  • VoiceThread app
  • “Greek to Me” platform

Study materials include texts, exercises, grammar/vocabulary tables, songs, videos, and more.

Primary textbooks: KLIK sta Ellinika

(Parts of the textbooks are uploaded on the platform, but printed/online books are not included in course fees)

Are lessons individual or group-based?

All courses are group-based.

Group size: 10-15 students

What is the attendance policy?

To receive a Certificate of Attendance, students must attend at least 70% of the live sessions.

About Us

The Center for the Greek Language was established in 1994. It is a private non-profit organization (NPO), classified as a General Government Entity, and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. Its headquarters are located in the city of Thessaloniki.
